Types of Permanency Plans
Various permanency plans may be developed based on the evidence in the case and how the biological parents are proceeding with their treatment plans. Adoption by gay men, women, and couples in any case should not affect this decision. If you feel it may be affecting the GAL's recommendations or the judge's decisions, address your concerns immediately with your
case worker.
Possible permanency plans include:1. Return Home. The GAL, judge and case worker may all agree that the biological parents are just beginning or, if the case has been ongoing, is making progress toward meeting the requirements of the treatment plan. Basically, under this plan, all parties agree that there is still a good chance that the child will return home and are giving the biological parents time to prove they can establish an acceptable home for their child. 2. Concurrent plans. Under a concurrent plan, the
case worker
and others involved with the case will begin to prepare for multiple scenarios. People may begin talking to the child in maybes or uncertainties. At this point, even if the child were to return home to their biological families, there would still be a major loss as a result of leaving their foster family. 3. Adoption. 4. Placement with kinship (an appropriate relative who has gone through the home study process). 5. An alternative placement such as a group home.
