Private Adoption
Many private adoption agencies in the US will not adopt to openly gay singles or gay couples. It might take some time to find an agency who will, or you can get referrals from other gay adoptive parents in our upcoming forums. Many people think that adopting through a private agency is the best option because of the immediacy of the exchange after the birth of the baby. They also will have better access to information about the birth parents and the biological mother's health during the pregnancy, and there is a lower chance of the infant being affected by drugs or having a history of mental illness in the family.
While this may be true, there are also downsides to adopting through a private agency. Some of these include:1. The cost is extremely high, usually 20-30 thousand dollars. 2. Medical services will always have to be paid by the adoptive parents. 3. Limited post adoption support. 4. Difficulty in finding an agency that will work with the gay community. While there is no perfect choice, I hope this site will help you in making your decision. If you've got specific experience with adopting through a private agency and you are gay, please
