Resource Family Team Worker
This is what their called in Boulder County. I would have named them something different, and I'm sure many other agencies have named them something else. The RFT worker is just the title of the social worker in a child's case who is assigned to the foster or fost-adopt family. This is the person who, along with the
case aide,
will help transport the child to and from visits.
S/he will be an advocate for you in the entire process, helping you to obtain everything you you may need, from funding for day care to therapeutic needs your child may require. This person can be invaluable to you as the foster parent as your RTF worker's primary focus is you as the foster or fost-adopt parent. While it may often feel like others involved may not care about your needs, your RFT worker will stand by you. You must remember that everyone else involved is focused on the rights of the biological parents and the needs of the child and have to balance their emotions in the case with the law and legal rights of the parent and child. Your RFT worker is the only one whose primary focus is you. So don't spoil your relationship with this person as they can also be a valuable resource in
post adoption.
Your Resource Family Team worker, once termination of the biological parents' rights or a relinquishment has occurred, will begin setting everything up for your adoption. A good RFT worker will arm you with everything you need for this process, including what to ask for in your
subsidy meeting.
